Processing In-person Card Payments with Offline Mode on Sunday 7th August 2:00a.m. - 6:00a.m. AEST

N.B. This scheduled maintenance has been rescheduled from 24/7/22 to 7/8/22.
Ahead of the planned maintenance period on Sunday 7th August between the hours of 2:00a.m. and AEST impacting in-person transactions, please read this guide and share it with your appropriate staff. During the maintenance period your terminal(s) will be remotely configured to continue to process transactions in 'Offline Mode'.

What is Offline Mode?

Offline mode helps merchants to process card payments without connecting to the internet. In other words, you can accept card payments without the need of a phone signal or WiFi. This feature is particularly useful for businesses operating in remote areas where signal is a problem, or during power or network outages.

Prior to taking an offline payment, we suggest you confirm the name of the cardholder as well as the expiration date to ensure it’s a valid card. You are fully liable for the risk of failed captures, chargebacks, and disputes related to payments that you process offline.

Please note – Where the terminal prompts for signature for verification, please ensure that you request for customer signature and verify that with the card signature.

Cards and Transaction Types Accepted Offline

You can accept the following card types when in offline mode:

  • Credit Card - Mastercard, Visa, AMEX
  • Debit Card Visa
  • Debit Card Mastercard
  • Eftpos

Cards and Transaction Types Not Accepted Offline

  • Any international card
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Samsung Pay
  • MOTO (Mail Order Telephone Order)
  • Pre-auth
  • Refund

Enabling Offline Mode on Your Terminal

Till have enabled offline mode on your terminals during the impacted window. There is no action required from you to enable offline mode.

Accepting Offline Payments Safely

When accepting offline payment, please ensure that you check the expiry date of the card and ensure that the customer signs for his Purchases done under credit and debit card.

Refund Offline Payments

You cannot refund payments when in offline mode. However, refunds can be performed once the terminal is back online.

Alternate Payment Acceptance Methods - Pay By Link and Virtual Terminal

During the planned maintenance period you will be able to accept payments via Till’s Pay By Link and Virtual Terminal products, if you have these associated with your account.

Can I accept Apple Pay/Google Pay/Samsung Pay in Offline Mode?

No, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay cannot be accepted when in offline mode.

Is There a Limit to Transaction Amount When in Offline Mode?

Yes, the maximum amount per transaction is $100, unless otherwise stated by Till.
